Priority

Overview

Priority is used to indicate Algonomy the order in which to consider the Tag, Content and other rules when evaluating content to show the customer.

By setting the priority on each rule, the merchandiser can affect the order in which the engine evaluates each of the rules to present the right content to the customers who visit their site. When setting up rules with priorities, think through it carefully so that you don't hamstring the engine and end up with either rules that cannot fire at all, or too many rules with the same priority setting causing the number of rules

Priorities allows merchandiser to tell Algonomy which rules take precedence over other rules, which helps get the expected behavior from the engine.

Engage Rules and Priority

There are several kinds of rules within Engage and previously each type of rule had its own set of priorities, which were in turn influenced by the priorities that Algonomy on these types of rules. For more information about these rules and how to create them, see Create Engage Campaigns.

Each rule can return multiple pieces of content when it is called by the engine to fill a placement, and the engine can qualify multiple rules to fill each placement. This means that there can be hundreds of pieces of content that qualify for the placement. Priority helps sort out which rule takes precedence, which then lets the engine sort through the qualified content to decide which piece to use.
