Merchandising Overview

Though Algonomy's Omnichannel Personalization constantly tests and optimizes its recommendation sets to display the best-performing products, you may have very specific business objectives that require manual merchandising---for example, depleting the inventory of a specific product or ensuring that an item is never recommended.

Merchandising controls allow individual retailers to satisfy specific use cases through various rules, restrictions, and manual merchandising.

You need to be mindful of how the rules you set up interact and what they effect, so that you don't end up in a situation where there is nothing for Algonomy to recommend.

The following merchandising controls on the dashboard enable you to influence the contents of placements according to fine-grained objectives. Click on each topic to learn more.

How It Works

On the Omnichannel Personalization dashboard, your Relationship Manager enables strategies for each page type, designating a custom message or using a default (for example, "People who viewed this item also viewed").

Strategies enabled for a given page type are launched into a competitive environment to determine the most effective ones for display. Algonomy tests the enabled strategies among a subset of customers; maximizing for customer engagement (for example, rec click-through rate), the most performant strategies receive the greatest visibility.

The rules and restrictions set up by the retailer lay over the strategies, filtering the recommendations returned.

Recommendation Strategies

Algonomy offers over 125 recommendation strategies (or "algorithms") for tailoring the customer experience. Strategies leverage customer behavior and catalog data to accommodate diverse merchant objectives and individual customer patterns. For example, one strategy could recommend products most frequently purchased after viewing the current item. Another strategy may display top selling items in a specific product category.
